===Amtrak station===

The [Michigan Department of Transportation](/source/Michigan_Department_of_Transportation) (MDOT) bought the 3.1 [acre](/source/acre) site of the station for $889,000 – which also includes land directly across the tracks – in 1994 from [General Motors](/source/General_Motors).<ref name=Crains>{{cite news|last1=Pinho|first1=Kirk|title=Developers anticipate MDOT property development request in New Center|url=http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20160119/BLOG016/160119808/developers-anticipate-mdot-property-development-request-in-new-center|access-date=20 January 2016|date=19 January 2016}}</ref> The station was built in 1994 as a replacement for the former [Michigan Central Station](/source/Michigan_Central_Station), which closed in 1988. The station consists of a one-story building which includes a waiting room, ticket office, and restrooms.  The platform is accessible by a tower at the back of the building, which heads to the level of the elevated [GTW Shore Line Subdivision](/source/GTW_Shore_Line_Subdivision) railway.

In the mid-2000s, MDOT began working with local and federal agencies to develop an [intermodal transit](/source/intermodal_passenger_transport) center one block south of the current station bounded by the [Conrail](/source/Conrail) North Yard Branch railway to the north, Woodward to the east, Amsterdam to the south, and Cass to the west. The project was intended to bring together the services of Amtrak, [DDOT](/source/Detroit_Department_of_Transportation), [SMART](/source/Suburban_Mobility_Authority_for_Regional_Transportation), M-1 Rail (later [QLine](/source/QLine)) streetcars, and future proposed services including the Woodward Avenue [BRT](/source/bus_rapid_transit) and [Ann Arbor-Detroit regional rail](/source/SEMCOG_Commuter_Rail).
