# Desert Conference

The **Desert Conference** was a [junior college](/source/Junior_college) [athletic conference](/source/Athletic_conference) with member schools located in [Southern California](/source/Southern_California) that operated from 1961 to 1981. It was formed in 1961 with four charter members: [Barstow Community College](/source/Barstow_Community_College), [Imperial Valley College](/source/Imperial_Valley_College), [Palo Verde College](/source/Palo_Verde_College), and [Victor Valley College](/source/Victor_Valley_College).[1] The [College of the Desert](/source/College_of_the_Desert) joined the conference in 1962.[2]

The Desert Conference was abolished by California's Commission on Athletics (COA) in 1981. In a [releaguing](/source/Realignment_(sports)) process, the members of the conference moved to the newly-formed [Foothill Conference](/source/Foothill_Conference).[3]
