# Derek Edge

**Derek Edge** (14 February 1942 – 23 October 1991) was an English [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played in the [Football League](/source/English_Football_League) for [Port Vale](/source/Port_Vale_F.C.).

## Career

Edge played for [Stoke City](/source/Stoke_City_F.C.) before joining [Potteries derby](/source/Potteries_derby) rivals [Port Vale](/source/Port_Vale_F.C.) as an amateur before signing as a professional in 1960.[1] After making his debut at [Vale Park](/source/Vale_Park) in a 2–1 win over [Reading](/source/Reading_F.C.) on 9 October 1961 he also played in the 3–1 defeat to [Watford](/source/Watford_F.C.) at [Vicarage Road](/source/Vicarage_Road) on 24 February.[1] These were his only two [Third Division](/source/Football_League_Third_Division) appearances of the [1961–62](/source/1961%E2%80%9362_Port_Vale_F.C._season) season for [Norman Low](/source/Norman_Low). He left on a [free transfer](/source/Free_transfer_(association_football)) in May 1962. He moved on to [Crewe Alexandra](/source/Crewe_Alexandra_F.C.).[1] He signed with [Cheshire County League](/source/Cheshire_County_League) side [Macclesfield Town](/source/Macclesfield_Town_F.C.) in March 1963 on a free transfer. The following year, he moved on to [Stafford Rangers](/source/Stafford_Rangers_F.C.).[3]
