# Derek Combs

**Derek Alan Combs** (born February 28, 1979) is an American former professional [football](/source/American_football) player who was a [cornerback](/source/Cornerback) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) for the [Oakland Raiders](/source/Las_Vegas_Raiders) and [Green Bay Packers](/source/Green_Bay_Packers). He played [college football](/source/College_football) for the [Ohio State Buckeyes](/source/Ohio_State_Buckeyes_football).[2]

## Early life

Combs graduated from [Grove City High School](/source/Grove_City_High_School_(Grove_City,_Ohio)) in [Grove City, Ohio](/source/Grove_City,_Ohio), where he was the star [tailback](/source/Halfback_(American_football)) and was voted Ohio's [Mr. Football](/source/Mr._Football_Award_(Ohio)) in 1996.[3] He has his own spot in the trophy case at Grove City High School.

## College career

He was a tailback in college for the [Ohio State Buckeyes](/source/Ohio_State_Buckeyes_football).

## Professional career

Combs was selected by the [Oakland Raiders](/source/Oakland_Raiders) in the 7th round (228th overall pick) of the [2001 NFL draft](/source/2001_NFL_draft) as a [cornerback](/source/Cornerback).[4] He played in four games for the Raiders in 2002 and eight games for the [Green Bay Packers](/source/Green_Bay_Packers) in 2003.
