# Derawal

The **Derawal** ([Saraiki](/source/Saraiki_language): ) are a community originating from [Derajat](/source/Derajat), a cultural region extending from river [Indus](/source/Indus_River) to [Sulaiman Range](/source/Sulaiman_Mountains) in central [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan). The varieties of [Saraiki](/source/Saraiki_language) spoken by the Derawal people are collectively known as [Derawali](/source/Derawali_dialect) (also locally known as *Hindki*).[1][2]

Most of the [Hindu](/source/Hindu) and [Sikh](/source/Sikh) Derawal migrated to [India](/source/India) at the time of the [partition of British India](/source/Partition_of_British_India) in 1947. The neighbourhood of [Derawal Nagar](/source/Derawal_Nagar) in Delhi gets its name from this community. There are several regional and national Derawal organizations in India today.[1][2]
