***Der Springteufel*** (German for ["The Jack-in-the-box"](/source/%22The_Jack-in-the-box%22)) is a 1974 [West German](/source/West_Germany) [TV movie](/source/Television_movie) starring [Dieter Hallervorden](/source/Dieter_Hallervorden) and [Arno Assmann](/source/Arno_Assmann), directed by Heinz Schirk. It is a remake of the British television play *Yob and Nabob* (1965, in the anthology series *[Theatre 625](/source/Theatre_625)*), written by [Derrick Sherwin](/source/Derrick_Sherwin), an English television writer best known for his work in *[Doctor Who](/source/Doctor_Who)*. It is a psychological [thriller](/source/Thriller_(genre)) about a [hitchhiker](/source/Hitchhiking) to [Frankfurt](/source/Frankfurt) who takes the man who gives him a lift hostage and plays mind games with him. It was released on [DVD](/source/DVD) in 2006.
