In its 24 June 1932 issue ''Der Funke'' published the "[Urgent Call for Unity](/source/Urgent_Call_for_Unity)" ahead of the [July 1932 Reichstag election](/source/German_federal_election%2C_July_1932). Signatories of the appeal included [Albert Einstein](/source/Albert_Einstein), [Käthe Kollwitz](/source/K%C3%A4the_Kollwitz), [Franz Oppenheimer](/source/Franz_Oppenheimer), [Arnold Zweig](/source/Arnold_Zweig), [Heinrich Mann](/source/Heinrich_Mann) and [Erich Kästner](/source/Erich_K%C3%A4stner). The newspaper was banned for four weeks in November and December 1932, following the publication of an editorial labelling president [Paul von Hindenburg](/source/Paul_von_Hindenburg) as the "Protector of Fascism".
