# Dennis L. Dutremble

**Dennis L. "Duke" Dutremble** (born April 28, 1947) is an American former politician. Dutremble was born in [Biddeford, Maine](/source/Biddeford,_Maine) of [Franco-American](/source/French_American) heritage. He attended [St. Joseph's School](/source/St._Joseph's_School_(Biddeford,_Maine)) and eventually the [University of Maine](/source/University_of_Maine). He served one term in the [Maine House of Representatives](/source/Maine_House_of_Representatives) and seven terms in the [Maine Senate](/source/Maine_Senate), including as [President of the Maine Senate](/source/President_of_the_Maine_Senate) from 1993 to 1994. In 1994, Dutremble ran for the U.S. House of Representatives and narrowly lost to Republican [James B. Longley, Jr.](/source/James_B._Longley,_Jr.)[1]

## Personal

Dutremble is the son of [Lucien Dutremble](/source/Lucien_Dutremble), who served as York County Commissioner, Mayor of Biddeford and State Representative. He first taught in [South Portland](/source/South_Portland,_Maine) and later [Thornton Academy](/source/Thornton_Academy) in [Saco](/source/Saco,_Maine).[1]
