Chalifoux played his major junior hockey with the [Laval Titan](/source/Laval_Titan) of the [Quebec Major Junior Hockey League](/source/Quebec_Major_Junior_Hockey_League), between 1987 and 1991. Drafted by the [Hartford Whalers](/source/Hartford_Whalers) of the [National Hockey League](/source/National_Hockey_League) in the 12th round of the [1990 NHL entry draft](/source/1990_NHL_entry_draft), Chalifoux reported to the Whalers' farm team, the defending [Calder Cup](/source/Calder_Cup) champion [Springfield Indians](/source/Springfield_Indians).  He played the next three seasons for the Indians, serving as the team's third-line center for the first two. Chalifoux coached the [Shawinigan Cataractes](/source/Shawinigan_Cataractes) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the 2012-13 season.  The team finished in last place, with a 15-46-7 record, and Chalifoux was let go after the season concluded.
