**Demirci** is a municipality and [district](/source/Districts_of_Turkey) of [Manisa Province](/source/Manisa_Province), [Turkey](/source/Turkey).[1] Its area is 1,321 km2,[2] and its population is 36,620 (2022).[3] The town lies at an elevation of 853 m (2,799 ft).

## History

From 1867 until 1922, Demirci was part of the [Aidin Vilayet](/source/Aidin_Vilayet) of the [Ottoman Empire](/source/Ottoman_Empire). At the [2013 reorganisation](/source/2013_Turkish_local_government_reorganisation), it lost part of its territory to the district of [Köprübaşı](/source/K%C3%B6pr%C3%BCba%C5%9F%C4%B1,_Manisa).[4]

## Economy

Demirci is one of the well known handmade Turkish carpet production centers in [Manisa](/source/Manisa_Province). Demirci carpets have different pattern and styles, such as *"Yağcıbedir carpet"* (Turkish: *Yağcıbedir halısı*).
