The **Delaware Breakwater** is a set of [breakwaters](/source/Breakwater_(structure)) east of [Lewes, Delaware](/source/Lewes,_Delaware) on [Cape Henlopen](/source/Cape_Henlopen) that form [Lewes Harbor](/source/Lewes_Harbor). They were listed on the [National Register of Historic Places](/source/National_Register_of_Historic_Places) on December 12, 1976.

The original 1,700-foot (520-metre) and 2,800-foot (850-metre) breakwaters were built in 1828.[1] The breakwaters are now included in the [National Harbor of Refuge and Delaware Breakwater Harbor Historic District](/source/National_Harbor_of_Refuge_and_Delaware_Breakwater_Harbor_Historic_District).

The stone for the breakwater were quarried from what later became [Bellevue Lake](/source/Bellevue_Lake) in New Castle County.[2] The breakwaters were the first structure of their kind to be built in the Americas.[3]
