# Defense Soap

**Defense Soap** is a company that markets and sells soap, [barrier cream](/source/Barrier_cream), equipment cleaners, sanitary wipes, and essential oils intended to address grappling specific cleanliness issues.[1]

## Defense Soap (Product)

Defense Soap is a brand of [soap](/source/Soap) (available in both bar and [shower gel](/source/Shower_gel) forms) created by Guy Sako to prevent outbreaks of skin infection on his wrestling team.[2] Since then the soap has been marketed to [wrestlers](/source/Wrestling), [Judoka](/source/Judoka), [Jiu-Jitsu practitioners](/source/Brazilian_Jiu-Jitsu), and [Mixed Martial Artists](/source/Mixed_Martial_Arts).[3] Both the bar and shower gel versions of this soap are made with [tea tree oil](/source/Tea_tree_oil) and [eucalyptus](/source/Eucalyptus) extract, and are [triclosan](/source/Triclosan) free.[4] The manufacturers claim that Defense soap is effective in preventing [MRSA](/source/Methicillin-resistant_Staphylococcus_aureus), [Staph](/source/Staphylococcal_infection), [Impetigo](/source/Impetigo), [Ringworm](/source/Ringworm), and [Herpes](/source/Herpes). Defense Soap has been accepted as the official soap of [USA Judo](/source/USA_Judo).[5][6]

## Barrier Foam

Defense barrier foam is a type of [barrier cream](/source/Barrier_cream) containing [lanolin](/source/Lanolin), [aloe vera](/source/Aloe_vera), [jojoba oil](/source/Jojoba_oil), [wheat germ extract](/source/Wheat_germ), and [vitamin E](/source/Vitamin_E).[7]

## Bar Soap

Defense soap carries several varieties of bar soap, including original, peppermint, oatmeal, and medicated.[8] Their medicated soap is antifungal.[9]

## Critical reception

Valerie Worthington of *Breaking Muscle* tested the shower gel version of Defense Soap and stated that, for people who train in close-quarters combat, it is "great option for keeping them active and skin condition-free".[10]
