Until 1664, it was [Isenburg](/source/County_of_Isenburg) domain, and thereafter [Electorate of Trier](/source/Electorate_of_Trier) domain until 1803 when it became part of the [Duchy of Nassau](/source/Duchy_of_Nassau). In 1866, the village passed to [Prussia](/source/Prussia). The customs house and lordly<!--“Bannwirtshaus”...I couldn’t quite work this out.--> inn in Deesen's municipal area is mentioned in 1667 and 1723. The old school is under protection as a monument.

==Politics==

The municipal council is made up of 13 council members, including the extraofficial mayor (''Bürgermeister''), who were elected in a municipal election on 7 June 2009.
