**Deasy** is a surname of Irish origin,[1] known as *Déiseach* in [Irish](/source/Irish_language).[2]

There were 973 people recorded with the surname Deasy in the 1901 Irish census.[3] Alternative spellings of Deacy and Deasey were less frequent, featuring 169 and 50 times respectively[4][5]

The name is featured in [James Joyce](/source/James_Joyce)'s book [Ulysses](/source/Ulysses_(novel)). At the time of publication the surname was mainly concentrated in [County Waterford](/source/County_Waterford) and in [West Cork](/source/West_Cork).
