**Dean Edwards** (born July 30, 1970) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and singer.[1] His work as a voice actor includes [Scottie Pippen](/source/Scottie_Pippen) and [Spike Lee](/source/Spike_Lee) in *[Celebrity Deathmatch](/source/Celebrity_Deathmatch)*, a robot in *[Robotomy](/source/Robotomy)* and [Donkey](/source/Donkey_(Shrek)) in *[Scared Shrekless](/source/Scared_Shrekless)* after [Eddie Murphy](/source/Eddie_Murphy) was unable to reprise the role (Edwards had impersonated Murphy on stage), along with a couple of other projects. He also appeared in *Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Halftime Special* as [Savion Glover](/source/Savion_Glover) and [Don Cheadle](/source/Don_Cheadle), in *[Tony n' Tina's Wedding](/source/Tony_n'_Tina's_Wedding#Film_adaptation)* as Father Mark, and *[The Sopranos](/source/The_Sopranos)*.

## Career

Dean Edwards developed a reputation for working clean[*[clarification needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_clarify)*] and taught classes in [stand-up](/source/Stand-up_comedy) [comedy technique](/source/Comedy_technique). Edwards is also a [voice artist](/source/Voice_acting), having done voice work for *[Celebrity Deathmatch](/source/Celebrity_Deathmatch)* and *[Robotomy](/source/Robotomy)*. He also did voice work for the [audiobook](/source/Audiobook) version of [Max Brooks](/source/Max_Brooks)' *[World War Z](/source/World_War_Z): An Oral History of the Zombie War*.

In the 2010 Halloween special *[Scared Shrekless](/source/Scared_Shrekless)*, he provided the voice of [Donkey](/source/Donkey_(Shrek)) after [Eddie Murphy](/source/Eddie_Murphy) couldn’t return. Murphy returned to play Donkey in the 2010 Christmas special *[Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular](/source/Donkey's_Christmas_Shrektacular)*. Edwards was hired as a staff writer for Daily Comedy, a website where professional and amateur stand-up comedians would post new jokes frequently.[2] Edwards has also appeared in commercials for [Snickers](/source/Snickers) and [Ford](/source/Ford_Motor_Company).

### *Saturday Night Live*

Edwards joined the cast of *[Saturday Night Live](/source/Saturday_Night_Live)* in 2001. He developed several [impressions](/source/Impressionism), including [Michael Jackson](/source/Michael_Jackson), [Wayne Brady](/source/Wayne_Brady), [Chris Tucker](/source/Chris_Tucker), [Don Cheadle](/source/Don_Cheadle), [Colin Powell](/source/Colin_Powell), [Serena Williams](/source/Serena_Williams), [Nipsey Russell](/source/Nipsey_Russell), [Grace Jones](/source/Grace_Jones), [Randy Jackson](/source/Randy_Jackson), [Redman](/source/Redman_(rapper)), [Denzel Washington](/source/Denzel_Washington) and [Billy Ocean](/source/Billy_Ocean).[3] Despite his penchant for impressions, Edwards didn't get much screen time in his brief tenure on the show. He left after the show's [28th season](/source/List_of_Saturday_Night_Live_episodes_(seasons_16%E2%80%9330)#Season_28_(2002–03)) (2003), citing creative differences.
