***Deadstar 2*** is the debut [studio album](/source/Studio_album) by American rapper [Smokepurpp](/source/Smokepurpp). It was released on December 13, 2019, by [Alamo Records](/source/Todd_Moscowitz) and [Interscope Records](/source/Interscope_Records).[2]

The album features guest appearances from frequent collaborator [Lil Pump](/source/Lil_Pump), as well as [Denzel Curry](/source/Denzel_Curry), [Ty Dolla Sign](/source/Ty_Dolla_Sign), [Lil Skies](/source/Lil_Skies), [Moneybagg Yo](/source/Moneybagg_Yo), and [Trippie Redd](/source/Trippie_Redd). Smokepurpp describes it as his "best body of work."

## Background

Smokepurpp released his debut commercial [mixtape](/source/Mixtape), *[Deadstar](/source/Deadstar_(mixtape))*, in September 2017.[3] He announced its sequel, *Deadstar 2*, in mid-2018.[4] The initial track listing showed [Lil Pump](/source/Lil_Pump) and [Gunna](/source/Gunna_(rapper)) as featured artists. The album was delayed and sometimes even scrapped multiple times due to being [leaked online](/source/Music_leak) before its release.[2] A track that was originally set to be on the album has also leaked, titled "No Problem", and features [Kanye West](/source/Kanye_West). In an interview, Smokepurpp revealed he had to omit the track from the record due to Kanye West giving up on putting out secular music.

## Artwork

Smokepurpp revealed the album's cover art on November 3, 2019.[5] It is inspired by a photograph of [grunge](/source/Grunge) icon [Kurt Cobain](/source/Kurt_Cobain), taken two months before his [death](/source/Suicide_of_Kurt_Cobain). Similarly, the album's prequel, *Deadstar*, also references a rock artist on its cover artwork, [GG Allin](/source/GG_Allin), particularly an image of his open casket.[6]
