# De Baandert

**De Baandert** was a multi-use [stadium](/source/Stadium) in [Sittard-Geleen](/source/Sittard-Geleen), [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands). Opened in 1964 it was used mostly for [football](/source/Association_football) matches and hosted the home matches of [Fortuna Sittard](/source/Fortuna_Sittard). The stadium was able to hold 22,000 people. It was closed in 1999 when [Fortuna Sittard Stadion](/source/Fortuna_Sittard_Stadion) opened.

The stadium hosted one international match of the [Netherlands national football team](/source/Netherlands_national_football_team): a friendly played on 27 May 1992 against [Austria](/source/Austria_national_football_team) (3-2).

The stadium also hosted the [1980 World Championships in Athletics](/source/1980_World_Championships_in_Athletics) featuring two events not included in the [Summer Olympics 1980](/source/Athletics_at_the_1980_Summer_Olympics): the women's [400 metres hurdles](/source/400_metres_hurdles) and the women's [3000 metres](/source/3000_metres) run.
