# David Wotton

**David Charles Wotton** [AM](/source/Member_of_the_Order_of_Australia) (born 14 August 1942) is a former [Australian](/source/Australia) politician. He was a [Liberal Party](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Australia_(South_Australian_Division)) member of the [South Australian House of Assembly](/source/South_Australian_House_of_Assembly) between 1975 and 2002, representing the electorates of [Murray](/source/Electoral_district_of_Murray_(South_Australia)) and [Heysen](/source/Electoral_district_of_Heysen).[1]

Aside from the [1982 Mitcham by-election](/source/1982_Mitcham_by-election), Wotton presided over the closest win versus the [Democrats](/source/Australian_Democrats) in South Australian history,[2] winning against them by a two-candidate preferred margin of 1.9% in the [1997 election](/source/1997_South_Australian_state_election).

In 2012 he was made a [Member of the Order of Australia](/source/Member_of_the_Order_of_Australia) (AM) "For service to the Parliament and community of South Australia through contributions to environmental management, family and community services, and the ageing".[3]
