# David Tustin

**David Tustin** was the [Bishop suffragan of Grimsby](/source/Bishop_of_Grimsby) from 1979 until 2000.[1]

He was born on 12 January 1935[2] and educated at [Solihull School](/source/Solihull_School) and [Magdalene College, Cambridge](/source/Magdalene_College,_Cambridge). After a period of study at what was then Cuddesdon College (and is now known as [Ripon College Cuddesdon](/source/Ripon_College_Cuddesdon)), he was made [deacon](/source/Deacon) on [Trinity Sunday](/source/Trinity_Sunday) 1960 (12 June)[3] and ordained [priest](/source/Priest) the following Trinity Sunday (28 May 1961) — both times by [Stretton Reeve](/source/Stretton_Reeve), [Bishop of Lichfield](/source/Bishop_of_Lichfield), at [Lichfield Cathedral](/source/Lichfield_Cathedral).[4] He embarked on an ecclesiastical career with a [curacy](/source/Curate) in [Stafford](/source/Stafford), after which he was Assistant General Secretary of the Church of England Council on Foreign Relations,[citation needed] while concurrently holding the post of [Curate](/source/Curate) at [St Dunstan-in-the-West](/source/St_Dunstan-in-the-West), and then [Vicar](/source/Vicar) of St Pauls, [Wednesbury](/source/Wednesbury).[5] Following this he was [Vicar](/source/Vicar) of [Tettenhall Regis](/source/Tettenhall_Regis) from 1971–1979 which was his final appointment before his elevation to the [episcopate](/source/Episcopate). During his time as Vicar of Tettenhall, he served as [Rural Dean](/source/Rural_Dean) of [Trysull](/source/Trysull) from 1976–1979.[6] He was consecrated a bishop on 25 January 1979, by [Donald Coggan](/source/Donald_Coggan), [Archbishop of Canterbury](/source/Archbishop_of_Canterbury), at [Westminster Abbey](/source/Westminster_Abbey).[7] In retirement he continues to serve the [Church](/source/Church_of_England) as an [assistant bishop](/source/Assistant_bishop) within the [Diocese of Lincoln](/source/Diocese_of_Lincoln). [His brother-in-law](/source/Kenneth_Stevenson_(bishop)) was also a [bishop](/source/Bishop).[8]
