# David Snyder

**David L. Snyder** (born September 22, 1944) is an American film and television production designer. He has worked as an art director, producer, and assistant director on films including *[Blade Runner](/source/Blade_Runner)*, *[Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey](/source/Bill_%26_Ted's_Bogus_Journey)*, *[The Whole Nine Yards](/source/The_Whole_Nine_Yards_(film))*, and the television programs *[Buck Rogers in the 25th Century](/source/Buck_Rogers_in_the_25th_Century_(TV_series))* and *[Battlestar Galactica](/source/Battlestar_Galactica_(1978_TV_series))*. He was nominated for the [Academy Award for Best Art Direction](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Production_Design) for his work on *[Blade Runner](/source/Blade_Runner)* at the [55th Academy Awards](/source/55th_Academy_Awards).[1] The film won the BAFTA for Production Design in 1983.[2]

## Career

Snyder was born in [Buffalo](/source/Buffalo,_New_York), [New York](/source/New_York_(state)) and attended the Technical High School, where he developed an interest in film work, creating the 1959 Tech High Musical Revue.[3] Twenty years later, he became the assistant art director for the [50th Academy Awards](/source/50th_Academy_Awards), having spent time as an architectural designer, toy designer and musician. [Universal Studios](/source/Universal_Pictures) later appointed Snyder as art director for *Buck Rogers in the 25th Century*, *Battlestar Galactica* and *The Incredible Hulk*. In 1982, Snyder worked with [Ridley Scott](/source/Ridley_Scott) on *[Blade Runner](/source/Blade_Runner)*,[4][5] for which he shared an Academy Award nomination with production designer Lawrence G. Paull.[1]

Snyder has worked on more than 30 films,[6] and is a member of [The Directors Guild of America](/source/The_Directors_Guild_of_America), [The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences](/source/The_Academy_of_Motion_Picture_Arts_and_Sciences), [The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences](/source/The_Academy_of_Television_Arts_and_Sciences) and the [Art Directors Guild](/source/Art_Directors_Guild).

## Personal life

Snyder married his second wife, actress [Terry Finn](/source/Terry_Finn), on August 1, 1990, and the couple have a son Finn Henry.[7] His eldest son, David Michael, is the Director of Corporate Sales for [The Milwaukee Bucks](/source/The_Milwaukee_Bucks) basketball team[8] and his daughter, Amy L. Taylor, is a film/TV make-up artist.
