# David Sieff

The Honourable **Sir David Daniel Sieff** (22 March 1939 – 27 May 2019) was a British businessman who was a director of retailers [Marks & Spencer](/source/Marks_%26_Spencer) from 1972 to 1997.[1]

Sieff was born in [Marylebone](/source/Marylebone), [London](/source/London), the only child of [Marcus Sieff, Baron Sieff of Brimpton](/source/Marcus_Sieff,_Baron_Sieff_of_Brimpton), and Rosalie Fromson. His grandparents were [Rebecca Marks OBE](/source/Rebecca_Sieff) and [Israel Sieff, Baron Sieff](/source/Israel_Sieff,_Baron_Sieff). He was a great-grandson of [Michael Marks](/source/Michael_Marks), the founder of Marks & Spencer.[2]

He was educated at [Repton School](/source/Repton_School) and joined Marks & Spencer in 1957, the last descendant of Michael Marks to serve on the board of the firm.[3][4][5][6][7]

He was knighted in 1999.[1]

Sieff married Jennifer Walton in 1962 and had two sons, Simon Marcus (born 1965) and Jonathan David (born 1966).[1]

He died on 27 May 2019 at the age of 80.[8]
