# David Rome

**David Audley Moberley Rome** (14 April 1910 – 20 May 1970) was an English [cricketer](/source/Cricket) active in the early 1930s, making four appearances in [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket). Born at [Marylebone](/source/Marylebone), London, Rome was a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batting_(cricket)) and right-arm [medium pace](/source/Seam_bowling) bowler, who played for [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club).

## Career and life

The son of Brigadier General [Claude Stuart Rome](/source/Claude_Stuart_Rome), Rome was educated at [Harrow School](/source/Harrow_School) where he [captained](/source/Captain_(cricket)) the school cricket team in 1929.[1] He later attended the [University of Cambridge](/source/University_of_Cambridge), where he did not play [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket) for the university.[1] He would make his debut in first-class cricket for [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club) against Cambridge University at [Fenner's](/source/Fenner's) in 1930. His next two first-class appearances for Middlesex in 1931 and 1933 were both against Cambridge University, while his fourth first-class appearance came in the [1933 County Championship](/source/1933_County_Championship) against [Glamorgan](/source/Glamorgan_County_Cricket_Club).[2] He scored a total of 56 runs in his four appearances, [averaging](/source/Batting_average_(cricket)) 9.33, with a high score of 32.[3]

He was for many years a member of the [Surrey County Cricket Club](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club) Committee.[1] He died following a fall at [The Oval](/source/The_Oval) on 20 May 1970.[1]
