**David Pope** (April 15, 1962 – October 21, 2016) was an American [basketball](/source/Basketball) player who played in the [National Basketball Association](/source/National_Basketball_Association) (NBA). Born in [Newport News, Virginia](/source/Newport_News%2C_Virginia), he attended [Norfolk State University](/source/Norfolk_State_University).

A 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m), 220 lb (100 kg) [small forward](/source/Small_forward), Pope was selected in the third round (62nd overall[1]) of the [1984 NBA draft](/source/1984_NBA_draft) by the [Utah Jazz](/source/Utah_Jazz). His short playing career lasted from 1984–86 with the [Kansas City Kings](/source/Kansas_City_Kings) and the [Seattle SuperSonics](/source/Seattle_SuperSonics). He died at the age of 54 on October 21, 2016.[2]
