**David "Sid" John Howlett** (born 24 November 1951) is a British [sailor](/source/Sailing_(sport)). He competed at the [1976 Summer Olympics](/source/1976_Summer_Olympics) and the [1992 Summer Olympics](/source/1992_Summer_Olympics).[1] He went on to coaching supporting both [Iain Percy](/source/Iain_Percy) and [Ben Ainslie](/source/Ben_Ainslie) to Olympic Gold.[2] In the [2013 New Year Honours](/source/2013_New_Year_Honours), Howlett was appointed an [MBE](/source/Member_of_the_Most_Excellent_Order_of_the_British_Empire) for services to "sailing and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games".[3]
