# David Horler

**David Ronald Horler** (born 10 September 1943) is an English [jazz](/source/Jazz) trombonist.[1] He is the older brother of [John Horler](/source/John_Horler) and the father of [Cascada](/source/Cascada) lead singer [Natalie Horler](/source/Natalie_Horler).

## Biography

Horler was born in [Lymington](/source/Lymington), [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire). His father was a professional trumpeter. David studied piano from age five and trombone from age 14, and attended the [Royal Academy of Music](/source/Royal_Academy_of_Music) from 1963 to 1966. Following his graduation he played with the [BBC Radio](/source/BBC_Radio) Orchestra (1967–70), then played freelance in London orchestras, including those conducted by [Leonard Bernstein](/source/Leonard_Bernstein), [Quincy Jones](/source/Quincy_Jones), and [Michel Legrand](/source/Michel_Legrand).[2] He moved to [Cologne](/source/Cologne) in 1980, playing in the [WDR Big Band](/source/WDR_Big_Band), also composing and arranging for the group. As a sideman, he has played with [Maynard Ferguson](/source/Maynard_Ferguson), [Stan Getz](/source/Stan_Getz), [Tony Bennett](/source/Tony_Bennett), [Bob Brookmeyer](/source/Bob_Brookmeyer), [Mike Gibbs](/source/Michael_Gibbs_(composer)), [Clark Terry](/source/Clark_Terry), [Kenny Wheeler](/source/Kenny_Wheeler), [Carmen McRae](/source/Carmen_McRae), and [Jim McNeely](/source/Jim_McNeely). He was made an associate of the [Royal Academy of Music](/source/Royal_Academy_of_Music) in 1992.[3]

### Personal life

Of his five children, one of his four daughters is [Natalie Horler](/source/Natalie_Horler), the lead singer in the [Eurodance](/source/Eurodance) band [Cascada](/source/Cascada).[4]
