**David John Goodchild** (born 17 September 1976) is a former English [cricketer](/source/Cricket). Goodchild was a right-handed opening-[batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) who bowled right-arm [medium pace](/source/Seam_bowling). He was born at [Harrow](/source/Harrow,_London), [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex). He was educated at [Whitmore High School](/source/Whitmore_High_School), Weald College, and the [University of North London](/source/University_of_North_London).[1]

Goodchild made his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut for [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club) against [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1996 County Championship](/source/1996_County_Championship).[2] He next appeared for Middlesex in first-class cricket in the [1998 County Championship](/source/1998_County_Championship) against [Yorkshire](/source/Yorkshire_County_Cricket_Club); despite being dismissed for a [duck](/source/Duck_(cricket)) by [Chris Silverwood](/source/Chris_Silverwood) in the Middlesex's first-innings, he did record his maiden first-class [fifty](/source/Half_century) in their second-innings, with a score of 83 [not out](/source/Not_out).[3] In the following first-class fixture against the touring [Sri Lankans](/source/Sri_Lanka_national_cricket_team), he recorded what would be his only first-class [century](/source/Century_(cricket)), with a score of 105 in Middlesex's first-innings.[4] However, the promise he showed in these two matches receded, with him passing fifty only once more in the six further first-class matches he played, with his final first-class appearance coming against [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University_Cricket_Club) in 1999.[2] In his nine first-class appearances for Middlesex, he scored a total of 354 runs at an [average](/source/Batting_average_(cricket)) of 20.82.[5] Goodchild also played [List A cricket](/source/List_A_cricket) for the county, with his debut in that format coming against [Surrey](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club) in the 1998 AXA Life League. He made seven further List A appearances, the last of which came against [Nottinghamshire](/source/Nottinghamshire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1999 CGU National League](/source/1999_CGU_National_League).[6] In his eight appearances in that format, he scored a total of 91 runs at an average of 22.75, with a high score of 38 not out.[7] Having featured for the [Middlesex Cricket Board](/source/Middlesex_Cricket_Board) in an [MCCA Knockout Trophy](/source/MCCA_Knockout_Trophy) fixture against [Hertfordshire](/source/Hertfordshire_County_Cricket_Club) in 1999, he featured in two further matches for the team in the 2000 MCCA Knockout Trophy, against [Suffolk](/source/Suffolk_County_Cricket_Club) and [Huntingdonshire](/source/Huntingdonshire_County_Cricket_Club).[8] He didn't feature for Middlesex in that season, and was released at the end of [that season](/source/2000_English_cricket_season).[1]
