==Playing career==
Born in [Landshut](/source/Landshut), Germany, Elsner began his professional career with his hometown team the [Landshut Cannibals](/source/EV_Landshut). In 2011, Elsner moved to Canada to play in the [Ontario Hockey League](/source/Ontario_Hockey_League) for the [Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds](/source/Sault_Ste._Marie_Greyhounds) for one season before returning to Landshut the following year. On 26 April 2013 Elsner moved to the [Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers](/source/Thomas_Sabo_Ice_Tigers) of the DEL. Returning to his former club, [Löwen Frankfurt](/source/L%C3%B6wen_Frankfurt) in their first season in the top flight DEL in the [2022–23](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_DEL_season) season, Elsner contributed with 9 goals and 11 points through 42 regular season games.
