**David C. Queller** is an [evolutionary](/source/Evolution) [biologist](/source/Biologist) at [Washington University in St. Louis](/source/Washington_University_in_St._Louis).[1] He received his BA from The University of Illinois in 1976, and his PhD from the [University of Michigan](/source/University_of_Michigan) in 1982.[2] Queller became a faculty member at [Rice University](/source/Rice_University) in 1989 and remained there until 2011 when he was named [Spencer T. Olin](/source/Spencer_T._Olin) Professor of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis.[3] Since the late 1980s, Queller has collaborated extensively with his wife and colleague [Joan E. Strassmann](/source/Joan_E._Strassmann). Empirically, Queller and Strassmann worked primarily with social insects[4] until they made the switch to the social amoebae, *[Dictyostelium discoideum](/source/Dictyostelium_discoideum)*, in 1998.[5]
