# David Boden

**David Jonathan Peter Boden** (born 26 November 1970) is a former English [cricketer](/source/Cricket). Boden was a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) who bowled right-arm [medium-fast](/source/Seam_bowling). He was born in [Eccleshall](/source/Eccleshall), Staffordshire.

Boden made his debut in [county cricket](/source/County_cricket) for [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club) in a [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) match against [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University_Cricket_Club).[1] In what was his only senior appearance for the county, Boden took 4 wickets in the Oxford first-innings, with [Simon Almaer](/source/Simon_Almaer) being his maiden first-class wicket. He went wicket-less in the Oxford second-innings.[2] He later joined [Essex](/source/Essex_County_Cricket_Club), who he made his debut for against [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University_Cricket_Club) in 1992. He appeared in 2 further first-class matches for the county, both coming in the [1993 County Championship](/source/1993_County_Championship) against Middlesex and [Sussex](/source/Sussex_County_Cricket_Club),[1] with Boden taking 3 wickets at an expensive [average](/source/Bowling_average) of 86.00.[3] It was for Essex that he made his [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) debut for in the [1993 AXA Equity & Law League](/source/1993_AXA_Equity_%26_Law_League) against [Durham](/source/Durham_County_Cricket_Club). He made 3 further List A appearances for Essex, all coming in 1993, with his final appearance coming against Middlesex.[4] Again, his bowling came without great success, with Boden taking 4 wickets at an average of 40.50 in limited-overs cricket for Essex.[5] Leaving Essex at the end of the [1994 season](/source/1994_English_cricket_season), Boden joined [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire_County_Cricket_Club) in 1995. His first-class debut for the county came against [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [County Championship](/source/1995_County_Championship). He made 2 further first-class appearances for Gloucestershire, against Oxford University in 1995 and the touring [Indians](/source/India_national_cricket_team) in 1996.[1] He took 8 wickets in his 3 first-class appearances for the county, which came at an average of 40.87, with best figures of 3/38.[5] He made 4 List A appearances for the county, with 3 coming in the [1995 AXA Equity & Law League](/source/1995_AXA_Equity_%26_Law_League) and one against [Suffolk](/source/Suffolk_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1995 NatWest Trophy](/source/1995_NatWest_Trophy).[4] In these 4 matches, he took 9 wickets at an average of 14.33, with best figures of 6/26,[5] which came against Suffolk.[6]

Leaving Gloucestershire at the end of the [1996 season](/source/1996_English_cricket_season), Boden joined [Staffordshire](/source/Staffordshire_County_Cricket_Club), with him making his debut for the county in the 1997 [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Championship) against [Buckinghamshire](/source/Buckinghamshire_County_Cricket_Club). He played [Minor counties](/source/Minor_counties_of_English_and_Welsh_cricket) cricket for Staffordshire from 1997 to 2000, which included 21 Minor Counties Championship matches[7] and 4 [MCCA Knockout Trophy](/source/MCCA_Knockout_Trophy) matches.[8] He made his first List A appearance for the county against [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1998 NatWest Trophy](/source/1998_NatWest_Trophy), with Boden making 3 further List A appearances for the county.[4] He struggled with the ball in these matches, taking just a single wicket for an overall cost of 172 runs.[5] In 2001, he joined [Shropshire](/source/Shropshire_County_Cricket_Club), with Boden making his debut for the county against [Oxfordshire](/source/Oxfordshire_County_Cricket_Club) in the 2001 Minor Counties Championship. He played for Shropshire in 2001 and 2002, making 5 Minor Counties Championship appearances[7] and 7 MCCA Knockout Trophy appearances.[8] His only List A appearance for Shropshire came against Oxfordshire in the 2nd round of the [2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2002_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy), which was played in 2001.[4] In this match, he was dismissed for 8 runs by [Adam Cook](/source/Adam_Cook_(cricketer)), while with the ball he took the wickets of [Craig Haupt](/source/Craig_Haupt) and [Timothy Smith](/source/Timothy_Smith_(cricketer,_born_1983)), for the cost of 25 runs from 8 [overs](/source/Over_(cricket)).[9]
