== Life ==
Aikman graduated from [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University)'s [Worcester College](/source/Worcester_College%2C_Oxford) in 1965 and gained a PhD from the [University of Washington](/source/University_of_Washington) in Russian and Chinese history in 1979.
