# David Agry

**David Agry** (August 2, 1794 – January 30, 1877) was an [American](/source/Americans) lawyer, jurist, and legislator. He served as a member of the [Wisconsin Territorial House of Representatives](/source/Wisconsin_Territory) and the [Wisconsin State Assembly](/source/Wisconsin_State_Assembly).

## Biography

Agry, who practiced law, was born in [Pittston, Maine](/source/Pittston,_Maine), the son of John Agry and Elizabeeth (Reed) Agry.[1] He graduated from [Dartmouth College](/source/Dartmouth_College), studied law in Maine and was admitted to the [Maine State Bar Association](/source/Maine_State_Bar_Association). A practitioner of law, he practiced law in [Bangor, Maine](/source/Bangor,_Maine), before moving to Louisiana to practice law.[2] He then moved to [New York City](/source/New_York_City) where he practiced law and was in business while practicing law. In 1840, Agry moved to [Brown County](/source/Brown_County,_Wisconsin), [Wisconsin Territory](/source/Wisconsin_Territory) where he practiced law.[1]

## Political career

In 1842 and 1843, he served in the [Wisconsin Territorial House of Representatives](/source/Wisconsin_Territory), representing [Winnebago County, Wisconsin](/source/Winnebago_County,_Wisconsin).[3] He was in the first [Wisconsin Constitutional Convention](/source/Constitution_of_Wisconsin) of 1846.[4] In 1848, Agry served in the [1st Wisconsin Legislature](/source/1st_Wisconsin_Legislature) as a [Democratic](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) member of the State Assembly.[5][6] He was elected [Wisconsin Circuit Court](/source/Wisconsin_Circuit_Court) Judge for Brown County in 1850, serving until his death on January 30, 1877, in [Green Bay, Wisconsin](/source/Green_Bay,_Wisconsin).[7][8][9]
