**David A. Arnold** (March 15, 1968 – September 7, 2022) was an American [stand-up comedian](/source/Stand-up_comedian), sitcom writer, producer, and actor.

## Stand-up comedy

Arnold began performing in 1997.[1] He performed at the Canadian [Montreal Comedy Festival](/source/Montreal_Comedy_Festival), on *Jamie Foxx Presents Laffapalooza* ([Comedy Central](/source/Comedy_Central)) with [Jamie Foxx](/source/Jamie_Foxx) and [Cedric the Entertainer](/source/Cedric_the_Entertainer), *[The Tom Joyner Show](/source/The_Tom_Joyner_Show)*, *[Baisden After Dark](/source/Baisden_After_Dark)*, *[Comics Unleashed](/source/Comics_Unleashed)* with [Byron Allen](/source/Byron_Allen), *[ComicView](/source/ComicView)* ([BET](/source/BET)), *[The Mo'Nique Show](/source/The_Mo'Nique_Show)* (BET), *[Entourage](/source/Entourage_(U.S._TV_series))* ([HBO](/source/HBO)) and *Def Comedy Jam*.[2]

## Screenwriter and actor

Arnold served as writer and producer for the [Netflix](/source/Netflix) revival series *[Fuller House](/source/Fuller_House_(TV_series))*.[3] He wrote episodes of several comedy shows, including *[Bigger](/source/Bigger_(TV_series))* ([BET+](/source/BET%2B)),[3] *[Meet the Browns](/source/Meet_the_Browns_(TV_series))* ([TBS](/source/TBS_(U.S._TV_channel))),[4] *[The Rickey Smiley Show](/source/The_Rickey_Smiley_Show)* ([TV One](/source/TV_One_(U.S._TV_network))),[5] *[Raising Whitley](/source/Raising_Whitley)* ([OWN](/source/Oprah_Winfrey_Network_(U.S._TV_channel))),[6] *[Tyler Perry's House of Payne](/source/Tyler_Perry's_House_of_Payne)* (TBS),[7] and *[The Tony Rock Project](/source/The_Tony_Rock_Project)* ([MyNetworkTV](/source/MyNetworkTV)).[8]

In 2021, Arnold created the [Nickelodeon](/source/Nickelodeon) show *[That Girl Lay Lay](/source/That_Girl_Lay_Lay_(TV_series))* and served as showrunner for the series.[3] He appeared in several television series including *Meet the Browns*,[4] *A Series of Unfortunate People*[9] and *The Tony Rock Project*.[8]

Arnold had two stand-up comedy specials on Netflix, *David A. Arnold: Fat Ballerina*[10] and *It Ain't For The Weak* (July 2022).[3]

## Personal life

Arnold was married to Julie L. Harkness; the couple had two daughters, Anna-Grace (b. 2005) and Ashlyn (b. 2007).[11] He was of African-American ancestry.[3]

## Death

Arnold died on September 7, 2022, at the age of 54, while at home due to natural causes.[11]

An episode of *[That Girl Lay Lay](/source/That_Girl_Lay_Lay_(TV_series))* titled "Dylan and Rebecca's Cleve-Land-Land Adventure" was dedicated to Arnold.
