== Professional career ==
Rummells turned professional in 1981.<ref name="pga" /> Rummells played on the [PGA Tour](/source/PGA_Tour) from 1986 to 1994, and his best finish was second at the [Buick Invitational of California](/source/Buick_Invitational_of_California) in [1993](/source/1993_PGA_Tour). He twice finished in the top-10 in a [major](/source/men's_major_golf_championships), both at the [PGA Championship](/source/PGA_Championship): fifth in [1989](/source/1989_PGA_Championship) and tied for sixth in [1988](/source/1988_PGA_Championship).

Rummells alternated between the PGA Tour and its developmental tour from 1995 to [2007](/source/2007_Nationwide_Tour). He won two events on its developmental tour: the 1996 [Nike South Carolina Classic](/source/Nike_South_Carolina_Classic) and the 1997 [Nike Knoxville Open](/source/Nike_Knoxville_Open). After turning 50 in 2008, he played on the [Champions Tour](/source/Champions_Tour) and his best finish was in his first event: T-20 at the [Regions Charity Classic](/source/Regions_Charity_Classic) in [2008](/source/2008_Champions_Tour).
