# Dave Middlebrook

**David John Middlebrook** (born 1961) is an [Anglican](/source/Anglican) priest and the [Archdeacon of Bedford](/source/Archdeacon_of_Bedford), in the [Church of England](/source/Church_of_England) [Diocese of St Albans](/source/Diocese_of_St_Albans).

## Education and training

Middlebrook graduated from [Newcastle University](/source/Newcastle_University) with a [Bachelor of Science](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) (BSc) in 1983 and from [Cranfield Institute of Technology](/source/Cranfield_Institute_of_Technology) with a [Master of Science](/source/Master_of_Science) (MSc) in 1985.[1] His Masters was in "Distribution Technology and Management" and he worked for [National Freight](/source/National_Freight_Corporation), based in [Bedford](/source/Bedford); he married Anne in 1987 and they have two children. Middlebrook worked for The Leprosy Mission from 1993 - 1996. [2] Dave then trained for the ministry at [Trinity College Bristol](/source/Trinity_College_Bristol) from 1996 - 1998, graduating with a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) (BA).[1]

## Ministry

Middlebrook was made [deacon](/source/Deacon) at [Petertide](/source/Petertide) 1998 (28 June)[3] and ordained a [priest](/source/Priest) the Petertide following (4 July 1999) — both times by [Christopher Herbert](/source/Christopher_Herbert), [Bishop of St Albans](/source/Bishop_of_St_Albans), at [St Albans Cathedral](/source/St_Albans_Cathedral).[4] His entire ministry has been exercised in the [Diocese of St Albans](/source/Diocese_of_St_Albans): after a [curacy](/source/Curate) at [Chorleywood](/source/Chorleywood) (1998–2002), he served as a [Team Vicar](/source/Team_Vicar) (for [Adeyfield](/source/Adeyfield)) in the [Hemel Hempstead](/source/Hemel_Hempstead) [Team Ministry](/source/Team_Ministry).[1]

He moved to [Watford](/source/Watford) in 2008 to serve as parish priest (as [priest-in-charge](/source/Priest-in-charge) until 2012, and thereafter as [vicar](/source/Vicar), a purely legal distinction); he has additionally been [Rural Dean](/source/Rural_Dean) of Watford since 2009 and an [honorary canon](/source/Honorary_canon) of [St Albans Cathedral](/source/St_Albans_Cathedral) since 2013.[1] On 18 November 2018, it was announced that he was to become [Archdeacon of Bedford](/source/Archdeacon_of_Bedford)[2] from he was collated on 30 March 2019.[5]
