**David Andrew Merris** (born 13 October 1980) is an English semi-professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)) for [Guernsey FC](/source/Guernsey_F.C.).

## Career

Born in [Rotherham](/source/Rotherham), [South Yorkshire](/source/South_Yorkshire), Merris was a member of the [youth system](/source/Youth_system) of his hometown club [Rotherham United](/source/Rotherham_United_F.C.) before joining [Guiseley](/source/Guiseley_A.F.C.) in 1998.[1][2] He joined [Harrogate Town](/source/Harrogate_Town_A.F.C.) in September 1999, with whom he won the [Northern Premier League First Division](/source/Northern_Premier_League_First_Division) title in the [2001–02 season](/source/2001%E2%80%9302_in_English_football).[3][4] Merris signed for [Third Division](/source/Football_League_Third_Division) club [York City](/source/York_City_F.C.) on 6 August 2003 following a trial.[5][6] He won York's [Clubman of the Year](/source/York_City_F.C._Clubman_of_the_Year) award for the [2004–05 season](/source/2004%E2%80%9305_in_English_football).[7] Merris signed a new deal with York at the end of the 2004–05 season.[8] He was released by York at the end of the [2005–06 season](/source/2005%E2%80%9306_in_English_football) and subsequently signed for former club Harrogate on 29 June 2006.[9] On 20 March 2008, he joined [Guiseley](/source/Guiseley_A.F.C.) from Harrogate for an undisclosed fee.[10] He was released by the club in May 2012 before signing for Harrogate for the third time on 31 May.[3][11][12] Merris joined [Northern Premier League Division One North](/source/Northern_Premier_League_Division_One_North) club [Ossett Town](/source/Ossett_Town_A.F.C.) as a player-coach in June 2014.[13] and was appointed player-assistant manager in November 2014[14]
