**Daryl Anthony Sconiers** (born October 3, 1958) is an American former professional [baseball](/source/Baseball) [first baseman](/source/First_baseman).

Sconiers attended [Fontana High School](/source/Fontana_High_School) in [Fontana, California](/source/Fontana%2C_California) though he told the *[Los Angeles Times](/source/Los_Angeles_Times)* his friends were not interested in school and he attended only often enough to maintain eligibility for the school's baseball team. As a senior at Fontana, he had a [batting average](/source/Batting_average_(baseball)) of .515. He was undrafted out of high school and played [college baseball](/source/College_baseball) at [Orange Coast College](/source/Orange_Coast_College).[1]

He played all or part of five seasons with the [California Angels](/source/Los_Angeles_Angels) of [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) (MLB), between [1981](/source/1981_in_baseball) and [1985](/source/1985_in_baseball).[2]

For a period in May 1982, Sconiers was absent from the team without permission or explanation and the Angels organization was unable to locate or contact him.[3] After the same occurred during [spring training](/source/Spring_training) in 1985, Sconiers admitted to having a [substance abuse](/source/Substance_abuse) problem.[4] He was let go after the season and never played in the major leagues again. Before his release, he was considered the heir apparent to future [Hall of Famer](/source/National_Baseball_Hall_of_Fame) [Rod Carew](/source/Rod_Carew)'s starting [first base](/source/First_baseman) job.[5] He continued to play in the minor leagues until [1991](/source/1991_in_baseball).

In 1986 and 1987, Sconiers played [unaffiliated ball](/source/Independent_baseball) with the [San Jose Bees](/source/San_Jose_Bees) along with several other former Major League players who had been afflicted by substance abuse problems. Sconiers once went missing from the team for three days on a [crack cocaine](/source/Crack_cocaine) binge.[5]
