Cook played for the [University of Portland](/source/Portland_Pilots_men's_basketball) from 1976 to 1980, and was selected by the [Detroit Pistons](/source/Detroit_Pistons) with 70th overall pick in the [1980 NBA draft](/source/1980_NBA_draft).
Cook's NBA career lasted from 1980 to 1989, and he played for the [New Jersey Nets](/source/New_Jersey_Nets), [Washington Bullets](/source/Washington_Bullets), [Denver Nuggets](/source/Denver_Nuggets), and [San Antonio Spurs](/source/San_Antonio_Spurs). In 1987, he signed a one-year contract with [Scavolini Pesaro](/source/Scavolini_Pesaro) of the Italian [Serie A1](/source/Lega_Basket_Serie_A) before returning to the NBA for one more season, playing for the Nuggets and the Spurs.
