# Darren Handley

**Darren Handley** (born 18 December 1963) is a former [Australian rules footballer](/source/Australian_rules_football) who played with [Collingwood](/source/Collingwood_Football_Club) and [Fitzroy](/source/Fitzroy_Football_Club) in the [Victorian Football League](/source/Australian_Football_League) (VFL).

Originally playing for [Dederang-Mt Beauty Football Club](/source/Dederang-Mt_Beauty_Football_Club) then moved onto [Myrtleford](/source/Myrtleford_Football_Club), Handley played one season at Collingwood, in 1986.[1][2] He debuted in round 10 and missed only one game for the rest of the year.[2] His best performance came in Collingwood's win over Fitzroy at [Waverley Park](/source/Waverley_Park), earning three [Brownlow Medal](/source/Brownlow_Medal) votes for 28 disposals and four goals.[2][3]

Handley played 10 games for Fitzroy, two in 1987 and eight in 1988.[2] He announced in 1989 that he was taking a break from football in order to recover from a chronic groin injury.[4]

He coached [Victorian Amateur Football Association](/source/Victorian_Amateur_Football_Association) club [Old Essendon Grammarians](/source/Old_Essendon_Grammarians) in 2006 and 2007.[5]
