# Darrell Hickman

**Darrell David Hickman** (born February 6, 1935) was a justice of the [Arkansas Supreme Court](/source/Arkansas_Supreme_Court) from 1977 to 1990.[1]

Born in [Searcy, Arkansas](/source/Searcy,_Arkansas), Hickman attended Harding College (now [Harding University](/source/Harding_University)) in Searcy before transferring to the [University of Arkansas](/source/University_of_Arkansas) (UA) in [Fayetteville](/source/Fayetteville,_Arkansas), from which he received his law degree. He worked three summers scaling logs at a lumber camp for the [U.S. Forest Service](/source/U.S._Forest_Service) near Fresno, California, before graduating from UA in 1958 with a law degree.[1]

Hickman became the Chancellor of Arkansas, and in 1976 ran as a [Democrat](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) for election to the state supreme court; he was unopposed in the general election.[2]

Hickman resigned his seat on the court ten months early, reporting himself as burned out and wanting to travel.[3]
