Hone played as a [defender](/source/defender_(association_football)) notably in the [Football League](/source/Football_League) for [Lincoln City](/source/Lincoln_City_F.C.). He also played for [Darlington](/source/Darlington_F.C.), [Barrow](/source/Barrow_A.F.C.), [Gainsborough Trinity](/source/Gainsborough_Trinity_F.C.), [North Ferriby United](/source/North_Ferriby_United_A.F.C.) and [FC Halifax Town](/source/F.C._Halifax_Town).

==Career==
Hone is a product of the [Lincoln City](/source/Lincoln_City_F.C.) centre of excellence and made his debut in the [FA Cup](/source/FA_Cup) first round match against [Nottingham Forest](/source/Nottingham_Forest_F.C.) which ended as a 1–1 draw filling in for the injured [Lee Beevers](/source/Lee_Beevers) and the ineligible [Hamza Bencherif](/source/Hamza_Bencherif). He signed a {{frac|2|1|2}}-year professional contract for Lincoln in December 2007. He scored his first Lincoln City goal in a 2–1 home victory over [Rochdale](/source/Rochdale_A.F.C.) in February 2008.

In May 2011 he was one of just three squad players to be offered a new contract after a mass clear out of players following relegation from the [Football League](/source/Football_League),<ref name="bbc9483263">{{cite news

In May 2012, manager [David Holdsworth](/source/David_Holdsworth) confirmed that Hone would not be offered a new contract. In July 2012 he joined [Gainsborough Trinity](/source/Gainsborough_Trinity_F.C.) on trial, and a week later signed a one-year contract. In May 2013 he signed for [North Ferriby United](/source/North_Ferriby_United_A.F.C.).
