# Daniel Stensson

**Daniel Stensson** (born 24 March 1997) is a Swedish [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a midfielder for [Djurgårdens IF](/source/Djurg%C3%A5rdens_IF_Fotboll) in [Allsvenskan](/source/Allsvenskan).[2]

## Career

At the age of 16, Stensson played a four-nation U16 tournament against Finland, Estonia and Latvia.[3] Stensson started his youth career in [Djurgårdens IF](/source/Djurg%C3%A5rdens_IF_Fotboll), but started his senior career in [IF Brommapojkarna](/source/IF_Brommapojkarna). Following a relegation from [Superettan](/source/Superettan) to [Division 1](/source/Division_1_(Swedish_football)), and loan to fellow third-tier club [Assyriska FF](/source/Assyriska_FF), he moved to Italy and [Serie C](/source/Serie_C) club [AC Mestre](/source/AC_Mestre).[1] The stay in Italy was short and marred by language barriers and not being "super ready to move abroad".[4]

Stensson returned to Division 1 with [Akropolis IF](/source/Akropolis_IF), then Superettan with [Dalkurd FF](/source/Dalkurd_FF) and [GIF Sundsvall](/source/GIF_Sundsvall).[4] GIF Sundsvall were promoted from the [2021 Superettan](/source/2021_Superettan), and Stensson made his [Allsvenskan](/source/Allsvenskan) debut in April 2022 against [IK Sirius](/source/IK_Sirius_Fotboll).[2] Shortly after, he was signed by Sirius.[5] In 2023, Stensson became team [captain](/source/Captain_(association_football)). Sirius had a poor start to the season, and Stensson attracted criticism for faking an injury to draw out the playtime, but Sirius finished the season strongly and climbed several places in the table.[6][7][8][9]

Stensson remained captain of Sirius until he was bought by [Djurgårdens IF](/source/Djurg%C3%A5rdens_IF_Fotboll) in August 2024. When Djurgården faced Sirius later that month, Stensson was booed by the Sirius fans.[10]

Stensson's maternal grandfather was Italian.[4]
