As a teenager Rey played in punk band [Shrapnel](/source/Shrapnel_(American_punk_band)), which also featured [Dave Wyndorf](/source/Dave_Wyndorf), later of [Monster Magnet](/source/Monster_Magnet). He co-wrote the popular Ramones single [Pet Sematary](/source/Pet_Sematary_(song)) with Dee Dee Ramone. Rey did all of the guitar work for 9 of the 11 songs on Joey Ramone's 2002 solo album ''[Don't Worry About Me](/source/Don't_Worry_About_Me)''. Rey also co-wrote the song '[Everglade](/source/Everglade_(song))' with [Jennifer Finch](/source/Jennifer_Finch) of [L7](/source/L7_(band)), which became the second-highest selling single in the band's history. Rey was also the guitarist for the band [Manitoba's Wild Kingdom](/source/Manitoba's_Wild_Kingdom), which he formed in 1986 with [Handsome Dick Manitoba](/source/Handsome_Dick_Manitoba) and [Andy Shernoff](/source/Andy_Shernoff) of [The Dictators](/source/The_Dictators). Wild Kingdom released a version of "New York New York" on the 1988 soundtrack to ''[Mondo New York](/source/Mondo_New_York)'', before Rey left the band and was replaced by [Ross "The Boss" Friedman](/source/Ross_the_Boss). He was also the guitarist/producer for Ronnie Spector since the mid 1990s. Among dozens of other production credits, Rey produced both albums that the reunited [Misfits](/source/Misfits_(band)) did with replacement vocalist [Michale Graves](/source/Michale_Graves). Rey recorded the theme song to [Todd Solondz](/source/Todd_Solondz)'s cult comedy ''[Welcome to the Dollhouse](/source/Welcome_to_the_Dollhouse)'' (1995), as well as a number of other tracks on the soundtrack.
