**Daniel "Danny" Collins** (born 1994) is an [Irish](/source/Irish_people) [hurler](/source/Hurling) who plays as a center half forward for the [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) senior team.

Born in [Kilmoyley](/source/Kilmoyley), [County Kerry](/source/County_Kerry), Collins first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Causeway Comprehensive School.

## Club

Collins had enjoyed much success at club level in both football and hurling with [Ardfert](/source/Ardfert_GAA) and [Kilmoyley](/source/Kilmoyley_GAA). As well as underage success with St Brendan's District.

In 2012 he won a Kerry Minor Football title with the St Brendan's District team after a win over [Kenmare District](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kenmare_District&action=edit&redlink=1) in the final.[1]

His first major senior success came when he won a Kerry Intermediate Football Championship in 2014 after a win over [Spa](/source/Spa_GAA) in the final,[2] He later added a [Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship](/source/Munster_Intermediate_Club_Football_Championship) title after a win over [Valley Rovers](/source/Valley_Rovers) from Cork in the final.[3] He later lined out in [Croke Park](/source/Croke_Park) as [Ardfet](/source/Ardfert_GAA) faced [St. Croan's](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=St._Croan%27s&action=edit&redlink=1) from [Roscommon](/source/Roscommon) in the [All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship](/source/All-Ireland_Intermediate_Club_Football_Championship) final. A 1–14 to 0–09 win saw Collins pick up an All-Ireland winners medal.[4]

He lined out in the [2014 Kerry Senior Hurling Championship](/source/2014_Kerry_Senior_Hurling_Championship) final where his side faced [Lixnaw](/source/Lixnaw_GAA). His first senior final ended in disappointment as he was on the losing side after a re-play.[5]

[[Kilmoyley GAA|Kilmoyley]] were back in the final in [2015](/source/2015_Kerry_Senior_Hurling_Championship) where they faced [St Brendan's Ardfert](/source/St_Brendan's_Hurling_Club). Collins was in fine form as he helped himself to 2–10 in a 3–15 to 1–13 win to land his first county title.[6]

[Kilmoyley](/source/Kilmoyley_GAA) qualified for a third final in a row in 2016 where they faced off with [Ballyduff](/source/Ballyduff_GAA_(Kerry)). The sided finished level 1–17 to 2-14[7] Collins who his second title after a replay win on a 1–18 to 2–13 win. [Kilmoyley](/source/Kilmoyley_GAA) overcame [Limerick](/source/Limerick) champions [Monaleen](/source/Monaleen_GAA) to book a place in the [Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship](/source/Munster_Intermediate_Club_Hurling_Championship).[8] In the final Collins and co faced Waterford champions [[Lismore GAA|Lismore]] in [Mallow](/source/Mallow%2C_County_Cork). Despite scoring all of his side's points, 0–13 in total, it wasn't enough as the title went to Waterford on a 2–14 to 0–13 scoreline.

A 2018 final loss to [Lixnaw](/source/Lixnaw_GAA) was Collins and co lot for the next few seasons.

[Kilmoyley](/source/Kilmoyley_GAA) were back in the final once more in 2020, where the faced holders [Causeway](/source/Causeway_GAA).

## Underage

Collins played both football and hurling at minor level with [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA).

He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Kerry minor hurling team. His first success came when he won an [All-Ireland Minor B Hurling Championship](/source/All-Ireland_Minor_B_Hurling_Championship) title in 2012 after a final win over [Roscommon](/source/Roscommon_GAA).

He also lined out with the minor footballers in 2012. His only appearance was as a sub against [Limerick](/source/Limerick_GAA).[9]

He would later join the under-21 side and had some success. In 2013 he was part of the team that won the [All-Ireland Under-21 B Hurling Championship](/source/All-Ireland_Under-21_B_Hurling_Championship) after beating [Kildare](/source/Kildare_GAA) in the final.

## Senior

He made his senior debut during the [2013 league](/source/2013_National_Hurling_League). Collins quickly became a regular member of the starting fifteen as [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) qualified for the [Christy Ring Cup](/source/2013_Christy_Ring_Cup) final where they faced [Down](/source/Down_GAA) where Collins lined out at midfield. Despite being favorites Collins side lost out on a 3–16 to 2–17 scoreline.[10]

He was a regular member of the starting fifteen during [2014 league](/source/2014_National_Hurling_League). Collins helped [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) qualify for the [National League (Division 2A)](/source/National_Hurling_League) final where they faced [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA). Despite being underdogs Collins side took the title on a 3–16 to 3–13 scoreline. Kerry would subsequently lose a controversial Promotion/relegation play-off with [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA). Collins and co regrouped for the [Christy Ring Cup](/source/2014_Christy_Ring_Cup). Wins over [Derry](/source/Derry_GAA), [Kildare](/source/Kildare_GAA) and [Mayo](/source/Mayo_GAA) seen [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) qualify for a second final in a row. In the [Final](/source/2014_Christy_Ring_Cup_Final) [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) again faced [Kildare](/source/Kildare_GAA). Like in 2013 Collins and co came into the game as big favorites, however it was [Kildare's](/source/Kildare_GAA) goals that made the difference as they took the title on a 4–18 to 2–22 scoreline.[11]

For the second season in a row [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) qualified for the [National League (Division 2A)](/source/National_Hurling_League) final where they this time faced [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA). Collins and co powered to a 5–17 to 3–17 win to win a second league title.[12] Kerry would again have to play a controversial Promotion/relegation play-off with [Antrim](/source/Antrim_GAA). However where the Kingdom fell short to [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA) in 2014 it was to be different as Collins and co had a famous 2–16 to 1–18 win at [Parnell Park](/source/Parnell_Park) to book a place in Division 1B for 2016.[13] [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) went into the [2015 Christy Ring Cup](/source/2015_Christy_Ring_Cup) as hot favorites having lost the two previous finals. Wins over [Down](/source/Down_GAA), [Meath](/source/Meath_GAA) and a huge semi-final win over [Kildare](/source/Kildare_GAA) seen [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) in the final for the fourth time in six seasons. The [2015 Christy Ring Cup Final](/source/2015_Christy_Ring_Cup_Final) with [Derry](/source/Derry_GAA) was a case of third time lucky for Collins as he finally got his hands on a winner medal after a 1–20 to 0–12 win.[14]

[Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) and Collins had a dream start to life in Division 1B of the [2016 National Hurling League](/source/2016_National_Hurling_League) as they overcame [Laois](/source/Laois_GAA) in the opening round.[15] Before running [Limerick](/source/Limerick_GAA) to just four points.[16] Heavy losses to both [Wexford](/source/Wexford_GAA) and [Clare](/source/Clare_GAA) looked to derail the season before a historic first victory over [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA) in 60 years at [Birr](/source/Birr%2C_County_Offaly) on the final day.[17] Despite this they still found themselves in the Division 1B relegation play-off where they again faced [Laois](/source/Laois_GAA). Collins and co powered to a second win of the season over their Leinster counterparts at [Austin Stack Park](/source/Austin_Stack_Park) on a 2–27 to 1–19 scoreline.[18] [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) entered [Leinster Senior Hurling Championship](/source/Leinster_Senior_Hurling_Championship) Qualifier Group along with [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA), [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA) and [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA). It was a somewhat disappointing campaign for Collins and co as despite an opening round win over [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA) they would lose out to both [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA) and [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA) to finish third in the group.

The [2017 National Hurling League](/source/2017_National_Hurling_League) wouldn't go as well as 2016. Despite an opining round win over [Laois](/source/Laois_GAA), where Collins scored two points, that was as good as it got for The Kingdom.[19] Heavey losees to [Limerick](/source/Limerick_GAA),[20] [Wexford](/source/Wexford_GAA)[21] and [Galway](/source/Galway_GAA)[22] followed. It set up a final day show down with [Offaly](/source/Offaly). It was the Leinster side who got the win to book a Quarter-final spot and put Collins and co into the relegation play-off.[23] For the second year in a row they would face [Laois](/source/Laois_GAA). It turned out to be an absolute thriller as the sides went to extra time. In the end it was the Leinster side who won out on a 4–20 to 1–30 scoreline.[24] Come championship Kerry again played in the [Leinster Championship](/source/2017_All-Ireland_Senior_Hurling_Championship#Leinster_Senior_Hurling_Championship) however Collins missed out on all three of the side's games.

For the [2018 National Hurling League](/source/2018_National_Hurling_League) [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) found themselves back in Division 2A. Losses to main rivals [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA) and [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA) meant Collins and co missed out on a league final spot. Come championship [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) took place in the inaugural staging of the [Joe McDonagh Cup](/source/Joe_McDonagh_Cup). As in the league losses to [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA) and [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA) meant Collins and co again missed out on a final spot.

Collins missed the opening rounds of the [2019 National Hurling League](/source/2019_National_Hurling_League). He returned to help his side to the final where they faced [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA). The result didn't go [Kerry's](/source/Kerry_GAA) was losing out on a 0–12 to 0–10 scoreline.[25] Despite a good league campaign the [Joe McDonagh Cup](/source/Joe_McDonagh_Cup) wasn't as good. Collins and co needed a last round win over [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA) to avoid relegation.[26]

Collins missed out on the [2020 National Hurling League](/source/2020_National_Hurling_League) due to injury. The [Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Gaelic games](/source/Impact_of_the_COVID-19_pandemic_on_Gaelic_games) however seen the [Joe McDonagh Cup](/source/2020_Joe_McDonagh_Cup) being played later in the season and as a result Collins was able to get back to fitness. Wins over [Meath](/source/Meath_GAA), [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA) and [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA) seen the Kingdom qualify for a first McDonagh Cup final. In the final they faced [Antrim](/source/Antrim_GAA) in [Croke Park](/source/Croke_Park) as a curtain-raiser for the [2020 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final](/source/2020_All-Ireland_Senior_Hurling_Championship_Final). Despite two points from Collins the title went to [Antrim](/source/Antrim_GAA) on a 0–22 to 1–17 scoreline.[27] Collins ended the year by winning a Joe McDonagh Cup Team of the Year award.

The [2021 National Hurling League](/source/2021_National_Hurling_League) seen Collins and co lose our to main rivals [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA) and [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA) and missed out in a final spot. The [2021 Joe McDonagh Cup](/source/2021_Joe_McDonagh_Cup) see [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) in a group with [Down](/source/Down_GAA) and [Meath](/source/Meath_GAA). An opening round win over [Down](/source/Down_GAA) looked to put the Kerrymen on track, however a surprise loss to [Meath](/source/Meath_GAA) looked to derail the season. However, in a strange twist of fate Kerry had a better scoring difference and qualified for the final for the second season in a row. In the final [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) faced [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA). Is wasn't to be as Collins was on the losing side once again on a 2–28 to 1–24 scoreline.[28]

[Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) qualified for the semi-final of the [2022 National Hurling League](/source/2022_National_Hurling_League) where they lost out to [Westmeath](/source/Westmeath_GAA), with Collins playing a role throughout.[29] The [2022 Joe McDonagh Cup](/source/2022_Joe_McDonagh_Cup) seen [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) in a group along with [Antrim](/source/Antrim_GAA), [Down](/source/Down_GAA), [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA), [Offaly](/source/Offaly_GAA) and [Meath](/source/Meath_GAA). Wins over [Carlow](/source/Carlow_GAA), [Antrim](/source/Antrim_GAA) and [Meath](/source/Meath_GAA) seen [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) qualify for a third final in a row. For the second time in three seasons it was a [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) v [Antrim](/source/Antrim_GAA) final. Despite three points from Collins [Kerry](/source/Kerry_GAA) lost a thriller on a 5–22 to 4–24 scoreline.[30] Collins missed out on [Kerry's](/source/Kerry_GAA) Preliminary Quarter-Final loss to [Wexford](/source/Wexford_GAA).
