# Dan Lester

**Daniel Lester** is an American costume designer best known for his work on military themed films based in the Middle East (*[The Hurt Locker](/source/The_Hurt_Locker)*, *[Zero Dark Thirty](/source/Zero_Dark_Thirty)*, *[12 Strong](/source/12_Strong)*, *[Man Down](/source/Man_Down_(film))*). He was nominated for a Costume Designer's Guild Award for his work on *[Once Upon A Time](/source/Once_Upon_a_Time_(TV_series))* in 2018.[1]

Lester moved to Los Angeles in the 1970s to open a boutique in Hollywood where he met many of the top industry artists. After years of setting up TV and film productions he began working as a costumer full time, beginning with highly respected designers including Academy Award winners [Theodora Van Runkle](/source/Theadora_Van_Runkle) and [Moss Mabry](/source/Moss_Mabry).

Lester formed a partnership with [Marilyn Vance](/source/Marilyn_Vance) and worked together on a string of iconic films including *[The Untouchables](/source/The_Untouchables_(film))*, *[Pretty Woman](/source/Pretty_Woman)*, *[Uncle Buck](/source/Uncle_Buck)*, *[The Rocketeer](/source/The_Rocketeer_(film))*, and *[Little Monsters](/source/Little_Monsters_(1989_film))*. During this period he received an Emmy nomination for his work on the television show *[Dallas: The Early Years](/source/Dallas:_The_Early_Years)*.[2] He moved on to work as a solo costume designer on *[Timecop](/source/Timecop)*, and continued with *[Spawn](/source/Spawn_(1997_film))*, *[The Relic](/source/The_Relic_(film))*, *[Sudden Death](/source/Sudden_Death_(1995_film))*, *[The Core](/source/The_Core)*, and *[I Still Know What You Did Last Summer](/source/I_Still_Know_What_You_Did_Last_Summer)*.[3] He has worked on television shows such as *[The A-Team](/source/The_A-Team)*, *Dallas: The Early Years*, '**, *[Eleventh Hour](/source/Eleventh_Hour_(U.S._TV_series))*, and *Once Upon A Time*.**

Dan Lester was born in Minnesota in 1954 and currently lives in Los Angeles, where he has resided for the last 40 years.
