'''Dalserf''' is a small village of only a few streets in [South Lanarkshire](/source/South_Lanarkshire), Scotland. It lies on the [River Clyde](/source/River_Clyde), {{convert|2|mi|0}} east of [Larkhall](/source/Larkhall) and {{convert|7|mi|0}} south east of [Hamilton](/source/Hamilton%2C_Scotland).

Dalserf is also a traditional [civil parish](/source/civil_parishes_in_Scotland). It includes [Ashgill](/source/Ashgill), Larkhall, [Netherburn](/source/Netherburn), [Rosebank](/source/Rosebank%2C_South_Lanarkshire) and Shawsburn. The name of the village comes from the [Gaelic](/source/Scots_Gaelic) ''dail'', meaning "field", and [Serf](/source/Saint_Serf), the name of a 6th-century saint who dwelt here. Of old, it was also known as ''Machan'' or ''Machanshire'', from the Gaelic ''Maghan'' meaning "small plain".

The village kirk, built in 1655, is dedicated to Saint Serf, and may be built on the site of an early church founded by him. The church dates from [The Killing Time](/source/The_Killing_Time), when the rebel [Covenanter](/source/Covenanter)s were persecuted for their faith, and was a centre of Covenanter activity.  [John M'Millan](/source/John_M'Millan), the controversial preacher and first post-Revolution minister of the [United Societies](/source/Cameronian), is buried in the kirkyard. The kirk is Category A [listed](/source/listed_building).

A ferry once operated across the Clyde at Dalserf, although this has long since been superseded by the nearby Garrion Bridge. [Dalserf railway station](/source/Dalserf_railway_station) once served the village.
