**Dale Tatum Mercer** is an American socialite, interior designer, and television personality. She is known for her appearances, alongside her daughter [Tinsley Mortimer](/source/Tinsley_Mortimer), on the American reality television series *[High Society](/source/High_Society_(2010_TV_series))* and *[The Real Housewives of New York City](/source/The_Real_Housewives_of_New_York_City)*.

## Biography

Mercer, born Dale Tatum, is the daughter of William Louis Tatum and Otine Baird Tatum.[1][2] She is descended from various [First Families of Virginia](/source/First_Families_of_Virginia). Mercer grew up in Richmond.[3] Mercer received a Bachelor of Arts degree from [Meredith College](/source/Meredith_College) and a Masters of Liberal Arts from [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University).

She married George Riley Mercer II, a businessman from Richmond.[4] Her husband was a real estate developer, architectural consultant, and partner in the Mercer Rug and Carpet Company, the GII Corporation, and the George-Marshall Corporation.[5][6] They have two daughters, [Tinsley Randolph Mercer Mortimer](/source/Tinsley_Mortimer) and Dabney Winston Mercer.[4][7][8] The family lived at [Graymont](/source/Graymont_(mansion)), an early-20th-century mansion in central Richmond.[9][10] She and Mercer later divorced after being married for 28 years.[3][6][11] Her ex-husband died in 2015.[6]

Mercer lives in [Palm Beach, Florida](/source/Palm_Beach,_Florida) and works as an interior designer there and in Manhattan.[12][13]
