**Dale Meeks** (6 May 1974 – 22 April 2023) was an English television and theatre actor.[1]

## Acting career

Meeks was best known for his role as [Simon Meredith](/source/Simon_Meredith_(Emmerdale)) in the [ITV](/source/ITV_(TV_network)) [soap opera](/source/Soap_opera) *[Emmerdale](/source/Emmerdale)*[2] and as the winner of ITV's *[Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes](/source/Celebrity_Stars_in_Their_Eyes)* with [Mark Charnock](/source/Mark_Charnock) as the Blues Brothers.

Meeks also starred in *[Byker Grove](/source/Byker_Grove)*[3] as the leader of a gang from rival youth club [Denton Burn](/source/Denton_Burn) for five series and played Hips in the BBC series *[Breeze Block](/source/Breeze_Block_(TV_series))*.

Meeks toured the UK with the musical *[Chicago](/source/Chicago_(musical))*[4] and appeared in the [West End](/source/West_End_theatre) production of *[Love Never Dies](/source/Love_Never_Dies_(musical))*.

## Death

Meeks died from [heart failure](/source/Heart_failure) at South Shields, South Tyneside District Hospital on 22 April 2023 at 5:34pm, at the age of 48.[5]
