## History

The paper was named *The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate* from 1892-1927, and was published by William White.[1] It sought to publish "The latest colonial and intercolonial telegrams, cablegrams, local and general news".[2] The newspaper was distributed every Wednesday and Saturday mornings from an office in Wingewarra Street, Dubbo to surrounding towns including [Bourke](/source/Bourke%2C_New_South_Wales), [Bathurst](/source/Bathurst%2C_New_South_Wales), [Gilgandra](/source/Gilgandra), [Narromine](/source/Narromine), [Orange](/source/Orange%2C_New_South_Wales), [Walgett](/source/Walgett) and [Wellington](/source/Wellington%2C_New_South_Wales).[2]

From June 1964 it was published by Macquarie Publications as *The Daily Liberal and Macquarie Advocate*.[3]

In February 2025, [Australian Community Media](/source/Australian_Community_Media) reduced the printed edition from daily to weekly.[4]

## Distribution

Macquarie retained ownership until December 1995 when [Rural Press](/source/Rural_Press) acquired the *Daily Liberal*, the *Weekend Liberal* and the other 55 newspapers and magazines in the Macquarie Publications group.[5] Rural Press merged into [Fairfax Media](/source/Fairfax_Media) in 2007, but was split out into [Australian Community Media](/source/Australian_Community_Media) when Fairfax was acquired by [Nine Entertainment](/source/Nine_Entertainment) in July 2018.[6]
