**Segment polarity protein dishevelled homolog DVL-1** is a [protein](/source/Protein) that in humans is encoded by the *DVL1* [gene](/source/Gene).[5][6]

## Function

DVL1, the human homolog of the *Drosophila* [dishevelled](/source/Dishevelled) gene (dsh), encodes a cytoplasmic [phosphoprotein](/source/Phosphoprotein) that regulates [cell proliferation](/source/Cell_proliferation), acting as a transducer molecule for developmental processes, including segmentation and [neuroblast](/source/Neuroblast) specification. DVL1 is a candidate gene for processes involved in cell transformations involved in [neuroblastoma](/source/Neuroblastoma). The [Schwartz–Jampel syndrome](/source/Schwartz%E2%80%93Jampel_syndrome) and [Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease](/source/Charcot%E2%80%93Marie%E2%80%93Tooth_disease) type 2A have been mapped to the same region as DVL1. The phenotypes of these diseases may be consistent with defects which might be expected from aberrant expression of a DVL gene during development. Three transcript variants encoding three different isoforms have been found for this gene.[6]

## Interactions

DVL1 has been shown to [interact](/source/Protein-protein_interaction) with:

- [AXIN1](/source/AXIN1),[7][8]

- [DVL3](/source/DVL3),[9]

- [EPS8](/source/EPS8),[10] and

- [Mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 3](/source/Mothers_against_decapentaplegic_homolog_3).[11]
