**Cyrus King** (September 6, 1772 – April 25, 1817) was a [U.S. representative](/source/United_States_House_of_Representatives) from [Massachusetts](/source/Massachusetts), half-brother of [Rufus King](/source/Rufus_King).

## Early life and education

Born in [Scarborough](/source/Scarborough%2C_Maine) in [Massachusetts Bay's](/source/Province_of_Massachusetts_Bay) [Province of Maine](/source/Province_of_Maine), King attended [Phillips Academy](/source/Phillips_Academy), [Andover, Massachusetts](/source/Andover%2C_Massachusetts), and was graduated from [Columbia College](/source/Columbia_College%2C_Columbia_University), New York City, in 1794. He studied law.

## Career

King served as private secretary to Rufus King when he was United States Minister to England in 1796. He completed law studies in [Biddeford](/source/Biddeford%2C_Maine) and was [admitted to the bar](/source/Admission_to_the_bar_in_the_United_States) in 1797, commencing his law practice in [Saco](/source/Saco%2C_Maine). He served as major general of the Sixth Division, [Massachusetts Militia](/source/Massachusetts_militia). King was one of the founders of [Thornton Academy](/source/Thornton_Academy) in [Saco](/source/Saco%2C_Maine).

King was elected as a [Federalist](/source/Federalist_Party_(United_States)) to the [Thirteenth](/source/13th_United_States_Congress) and [Fourteenth](/source/14th_United_States_Congress) Congresses (March 4, 1813 – March 3, 1817).

## Death

He returned to [Saco](/source/Saco%2C_Maine) (then in Massachusetts' [District of Maine](/source/District_of_Maine)), where he died on April 25, 1817, and was interred in [Laurel Hill Cemetery](/source/Laurel_Hill_Cemetery_(Saco%2C_Maine)).
